Filter Request for Information Form

 

This form was developed as a template to make it easy for our customers to enter the information DLI needs for an initial assessment of filter performance, size and cost. After submitting this form DLI Applications Engineering will contact you. From these discussions DLI will provide you with further information about possible topologies and predicted filter performance. Then you can decide if a filter on a high-k dielectric is the right option for you. Please note: This is not an order form. There is no obligation until you are confident in our capabilities and actually decide to place an order.

Surface Mount Wire-Bonded Either

 

Selecting the surface mount option might seem attractive at first but keep in mind that surface mount filters will typically have less rejection than filters that are wire-bonded into the circuit. If you opt for a SMT filter, 60 dB or more rejection might be difficult to achieve in volume production.

Mechanical size limitations and cover or shield height

If possible, please limit filter length to a multiple of 100 mil (=2.54 mm). This will speed up manufacturing and minimize test.

I plan to use a channel to mount the filter in, or I am able to implement one.
This filter will require its own cover or shield.

Electrical specification

Please enter the desired filter Center Frequency (geometric or arithmetic mean of the upper and lower cutoff frequencies). If you have special requirements such as a 1dB cutoff instead of 3dB points or you have a maximum pass band ripple spec you can paste that information into the attenuation section. DLI filters usually offer very attractive benefits in the 2 GHz to 67 *1 GHz range. Below that range we tend to be less competitive unless your application needs extreme temperature stability.

 

*1 Please note that 67 GHz is an artificially imposed end point and is in place because of DLI test equipment limitation.

*2 A good way to lower the insertion loss of a filter is to make the bandwidth as high as possible. In general it is very hard to make something that has less than a 1% fractional bandwidth so try to keep the band-width in your system in the range 2-40% or you will risk a higher loss figure. To get the fractional bandwidth from the absolute bandwidth, just divide the absolute bandwidth by the filter center frequency and convert this ratio to percent.

 

DLI strives to design the filter to the lowest possible insertion loss for a given specification. For our initial assessment it is important to know if your application has a hard limit for insertion loss

DLI will design a filter to have a low and even return loss in the pass band but we need to know if your system requirements dictate a minimum value of the S11. Common values are -10 dB, -12 dB or -15 dB etc. If you prefer VSWR figures (example 2:1) you can enter them as well.

Attenuation specification

Copy and paste your attenuation specification here. System requirements, mirror frequencies to suppress, out of band signals of interest etc. We want to know all about it so we can select the most appropriate filter topology. If your circuit is sensitive to second or third order responses, please indicate the amount of suppression needed.

 

Do you need a test fixture with the filter and if so what connectors do you plan to use?

 

Are there any special test requirements or application specific requirements such as; temperature range, test documentation or mounting information, space qualification etc?

NRE fee information

If this requirement results in the need to create a new design DLI may charge for photo masks, tool setup and engineering time, commonly referred to as NRE. If this is a problem DLI can amortized the NRE Fee over the initial prototype quantities or we may be able to make other arrangements based upon special considerations such as the life of the program. To prepare a budgetary quote it is important to know if you want to have the NRE paid as a lump sum or divided up.

If you have an idea about how many filters your project is going to need over the next year or two (or more) we would like to know about it to give you the best possible price estimation. DLI has no issue with low volume projects with high performance requirements. If you will go to high volumes it is also not an issue but we need to know for a proper quotation. Your best estimate is fine.

DLI understands that price is an important factor to take into account at the beginning of the design cycle. DLI may not always yield the lowest cost solution but often achieves the best performance, smallest size and best temperature stability compared to competing technologies in the marketplace. This is especially true at higher frequencies. DLI will use the target price and volume projections when reviewing potential solutions. We will advise if we are unable to meet your price target.
